I was Googling and just found an article from 2007 that said prices in England are expected to rise by a sick 40% in 4 years.
This does not seem like a real estate bubble to me and certainly cannot be what happened.

I was appointed administrator of my uncle’s estate. I thought he had his financial records…Unfortunately, he died incompetent and no will (intestate)…There are no legal records. I live in KS…He lived in NY. He filed no taxes with the IRS, since 2003. My records began in 2007. What do I do if I do not have any financial records and there is a small estate connected to 2 mortgage notes?
