Henry George over a century ago said there was a good reason to tax land values heavily and eliminate taxes on labor, capital and products thereof. The reason was to capture the value created by the community to pay for public services all of which have the effect of increasing the usefulness and therefore the value of land. This would have ended speculation and prevented all intervening real estate, i.e land, bubbles that happened every 18 years. Neoclassical economists reviled the idea??!!!.
